American Drug War: The Last White Hope

American Drug War: The Last White Hope (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Mr. David Sheff has written a book title Clean, Overcoming Addiction and Ending America Greatest Tragedy. My finding, Mr. Sheff has offered a treatment plan, if you will,  using non traditional tools and ideas. He has presented a very well supported overview of the treatment process presently conducted, noting strength and weakness of programs. We seem to agree prevention and wellness is the approach that, will in time, produce the most long  lasting results. This is a good publication for individuals with limited understanding of the “Drug War in America.” His book reads better than slogans ” Just Say No”, coin by former first lady Nancy Reagan. I give his work high points until the contents chapters, Ending Addiction, The Future of Prevention and Treatment, Fighting the Right War. Not having Mr. Sheff or his publisher permission to reproduce selections I can only state buy the book.

In 2000, Americans spent about $36 billion on cocaine,$10 billion on heroin,$5.4 billion on meth, $11 Billion on marijuana, and $2.4 billion on other illicit substances. The source for this information was Washington, DC, Office of National Drug Control. December 2001.” My problem, If the government  has this information why is it war on drug?” It is all a distortions of statics and misinformation which has produced the greatest public health problem in the history of our nation.  Consumer population need to understand substance abuse or dependency is a mental disorder. DSMIII, DSMIV, and it will be a disorder in the forth-coming DSMV. (Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders) There is a good deal more to review here lets save that. Thanks for stopping by and continued good health.

When the doors  for a better America are open great things can take place. An example is when women were allowed to vote due to the 19th amendment enacted in 1920,  portion that were Irish Americans join together to elect a Irish Catholic president the late John F. Kennedy President.” A people who were discriminated for being Irish immigrants,The Tenement People, became the second largest to immigrate to America. They found their way to government employment in big cities, police and firemen.   lets understand more than Irish women and men voted for President JFK, “one could say almost all Irish who could vote supported his election.” Even then it was a tight win.”(President Nixon) It took 40 years to pick such a man after women were included in the American voting process. On the other hand after  Black American population along with other Americans of good faith forged congress to pass the Voting Act of 1965 which enforced the 15th amendment. It took 43 years to elect a Black American to the presidency, Barrack Obama. After hundred of years of slavery and Jim Crow Laws used as an avenue to discriminate, the change laws made change. “President Obama is part Irish as well.” The two groups that suffered the most in American history (Asian, American Indians not far behind) were able to have one of their own elected to president of all the people.  Happy St. Pats Day to all.

“Under Attack” Health Care Information

In 1996 there were almost 9,000 New York State credentialed counselors who dramatically impact substance abuse and mental health care. Noted,” New York State always had a stronger voice in advocating for alcoholism and substance abuse counseling at the national level”.

This quality care for consumers has and is presently being compromised by  governmental along with big business. There is a true lack of UNDERSTANDING AS TO WHAT American with Disabilities Act, ADA, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, HIPAA. These civil rights laws are tools to give opportunity for a population that has and can bring a great deal of strength to an employer if given the proper support. The problem is not only in mental health, health care in general is under attack. Our military is in the ranks as well.

Consumers, big business, government must take the lack of true protection in information technology more serious. Mr. Jim Sheldon-Dean, founder and director of compliance services at Lewis Creek Systems, LLC,  is a fore- runner as far back as 1982.  In case you have not heard this is the year 2013, yet the lack of respect for our life information continue.

Worker Charged in Hospital File Thefts, New York Times, Sunday, April 13th, by line John Eligon is just a small example of how life property is stolen.  More audits, enforcement along with penalties, advocacy for compliance and proactive activity from you the consumer is the answers, you think?

Technology, Has It Taken Away Our Constitutional Rights ??????

Seal of the United States Department of Justice

There are serious violations of our fourth amendments rights conducted by local, state, federal agencies daily.  Events concerning questionable activity by the Justice Department is background there is a problem. Surveillance abuse by members of law enforcement, FBI obtaining phone records on ordinary citizens is evidence. “Operation Fast and Ferious,” were members of our government sold high powered weapons to gangsters from another country in which a Special Agent with U.S. Border Patrol was killed sometime later.  Violation of some of our labor and civil rights laws is additional evidence. All had elements of miss used technology.

In real-time these unjust acts, Civil and criminal, are not being address or we can say no one is being held accountable. Taking a moral stand, employing the host of the greater community may stop some of these violation, social attacks. Families who are low economic level  are fighting to conduct basic daily living. Most do not understand how technology affects them. All the rest of our population, those who have college degrees, advance degrees, entrepreneurs, professionals labor, skilled labor, public safety, all the rest are so busy trying to keep up a structured life style there is no time to reflex, “what the hell is going on”?  The need for all Americans to take a good look at how technology has affected their life, is  a must.

Lets discuss ID theft which is only part of the story, 2004 statics taken from Aftermath Study, Theft Resource Center, ten million people ID have been victims. 47% have trouble getting credit or loans, if they do get credit it’s at higher rates. 11% receive negative impact when attempting to obtain employment or housing. 70% never rid themselves of the negative information maintain at credit agencies. 40% suffer from emotional stress, often seeking professional counseling and treatment. 42% are unable to trust people, 60% feel they are unprotected by law enforcement. Electronic medical records are  often compromised, can endanger continued care.  “What we have is a great product being use badly.” There are situation individuals end up dead from being victims.

We constructed a pretty good society,”we all can agree America is the best.”  Commentary, lets not give away our America, lets become more proactive when problem develop due to miss use of technology contact your representatives or council person. They have the information that can help you, follow-up.  Thanks for stopping by and continued good health.

The PROTECT Act

The PROTECT Act of 2003 is a backronym which stands for Prosecutorial Remedies and Other Tools to End the Exploitation of Children Today. 108 Public Law 21. PROTECT act. was signed into law April 30th 2003. Increasing penalties for certain convictions. All children are at risk in America today. Gangs, bad parenting, child predators, child labor, and much much more. Newtown Killings has open the door for proactive activity addressing protecting all children in our great country. “It takes a village to raise a child,” this is a saying that has been around since I was a child, many years ago. Frankly it holds true, we as a community must work together to forge our youth to develop into good Americans. Remember, Penn State scandal, these children lost their lives also. The victims are not dead, they were however emotionally killed. Force to live life and control the pain of  criminal incident.

All schools and educators must advocate for an increase inner protection system, it is already in place. Behavioral Health professionals, available for consult. Educate students in behavioral health. When a teen takes his first drink in the boys bathroom, he has no idea he could be in for a life of emotional pain if he does not learn to control drinking. Once again using America history, there were gangs, bullies, in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s. Violence seems to become a daily happening in and around our schools since 1990s, what is going on? I ask you, the public to tell me. I will do my homework along with you. Finding the answer will help us understand, why we have a weapon/s problem around our schools. Thanks for stopping by and continue good health.

Fathers Day And Father Figures

Fathers Day June 17th 2012 has me remembering how lucky I was while a child, teenager. Raised in urban New York I had a natural father who was a good man with little formal education. A hard worker who always got well paying jobs. He made more money than most college grads for that period in America. The last one was longshoremen, Brooklyn New York Docks. He stress one thing become “educated to the world, understand how it function, be a good American. Do not let being Black American get in your way. ” He was very proud as I represented my graduating class as Class President in High School. It was team action that gave me that position. My godfather was not Italian he was New York City Police Officer who protected The Brown Bomber, the late great Joe Louis. “If my behavior got out of hand my mother would use the name Johnny Jenkins, a sense of  fear would develop which would change my lack of respect immediately”. Now my father figure was a Italian from the old the country. We shared a three family house from one week old until age ten. He taught me to just behave, “be a gooda boy, a gooda catholic. Life will be good to you, you will find your way.”  There was a step-father  in my life a very smart man who would not use his education and background. He would take low paying safe jobs so he did not have to fight the good fight. The fight that is conducted  each day people go to work, “standing their ground.” He fathered two-step brothers. I am a father also, however due to elements in our government I was unable to raise my son, after he was five years old I only saw him once as a teenager. I even went on national TV during a Fathers Day program to seek him out. Your asking right about now what elements could keep a citizen from raising his child? The courts for one,we must save that story for another time. A father is a leader in the greater community they come in all forms the imagine of father is different for many people. I loved all my fathers they gave me wisdom, skills, and the power to want to live a life base on God, Country and family. Happy Fathers Day everyday.

Mike Wallace (journalist)

The family of CBS News has lost a Icon I lost a Champion of the people. That is how the population that I advocate for saw Mr. Wallace. Some years ago during an interview Mr. Wallace made public he had a mental health disorder. Which one is not important, the fact he was a consumer is all one need to know, a code word professional use to  maintain confidentiality. Mr. Wallace became a personal friend when he stood up to a direct attack by New York City TLC Police officer. Mr Wallace vehicle was stop on New York city streets and an interaction took place. Mr Wallace being Mr. Wallace was out spoken and forth right in his response to the incident. Shortly after Mike was arrested and booked for a criminal offense.

I met Mr. Wallace during New York Press club gatherings. We discuss  advocating for hidden disability in” The New Civil Rights Era” and found it’s a up hill battle. Big business and government see hidden disability complaints as part of doing business. “Just send them to legal find a remedy life goes on. No real effort to prevent such actions from taking place in real-time is taken. An apathetic approach, some firms have insurance to cover such complaints. While employed you have the right not to discuss any hidden disability. While at work if a conditions develop on their time,  management tends to feel they been taken advantage of and go on the attack mode. Now that Mr. Wallace is gone all concern parties must turn up the volume and work for a better tomorrow. RIP my friend and thanks.
